Here are a few oldies but goodies from the raptorial bonanza at Half Moon Bay a few years ago.
A young Red-tailed Hawk flying circles around me while evading crows and figuring out the challenging wind conditions on the coast.

These particular shots were taken with either a nikon D90 or a D700 with a 70-300mm lens. Mostly it’s about watching the birds and a little luck. They tell you how close you can approach and often they will let you know which way they plan to go. The luck happens when you are well placed and they come right at you. It’s always nice when they come towards you because you know you aren’t considered a threat.
