Loud and Clear

Last spring this Swainson’s Hawk sent me a strong message when she saw me emerge from my car to photograph three fledglings perched on a power pole. The kids were flighted but still relying on the adults for food and the parents’ protective instinct was fully intact. I ducked back into my car and left to keep exploring the Klamath Basin.

Today I was walking my dog on Bernal hill and there was a huge hawk screeching from above and circling. Meanwhile my dog was busy hunting gofers. What is the screeching about? Was it looking for food? I was afraid it would swoop down and snatch small dogs. *Also, the Blue Angels were doing their practice runs not far away.
